The Broadband Industry group welcomes the Government and Ofcom's response to the Trade and Industry Select Committee's report on the UK Broadband Market. The report, which was published in February, was explicit in its concern about the current lack of competition in the wholesale broadband market.

A spokesperson for the Group said; "The Group is heartened by the recognition from the Government and Ofcom that the successful development of broadband remains integral to the economic and social development of the UK."

"It is important that the recommendations made by the Committee are translated in to real benefits to the consumer, the next step is about getting things done and solving the implementation issues. It is in the interests of UK plc that a truly competitive wholesale broadband market is created. Only challenging targets and a regulatory framework that delivers a genuinely competitive market will deliver an environment in which businesses, consumers and the UK as a whole will benefit."
